Customization / Build your specification

Make the book feel like your book.

A good specification connects your design to the way a book is handled. Work through these six decisions, then send us your preferences and the details you still need help with.

Options depend on the book's construction and materials. We confirm the combination, sample requirements and price with your project.

Six decisions to shape your edition

01

Size & page count

Begin with the finished width and height, page count and quantity. Tell us whether covers are included in your count and whether you have a fixed format or would like alternatives.

02

Interior paper

Choose around the content: text, photography or illustration. Discuss shade, surface, opacity and thickness alongside paper weight; a sample helps you judge the feel.

03

Binding & opening

Compare paperback, case binding and other constructions against the way the book will be used. Ask how the chosen paper and binding affect the opening and gutter.

04

Cover materials

Printed paper, cloth and PU each give a different surface and feel. Confirm the colour, texture, artwork area and any material reference before approving the cover.

05

Finishing & details

Explore foil, debossing, lamination, ribbon markers and page-edge treatments. Specify the position and intended effect, then check compatibility with the chosen stock.

06

Proofing & approval

Agree what the proof or sample will demonstrate: layout, construction, material or colour. Record the approved specification and any remaining changes before production.
